What is the Representative Assembly (RA)?

The American Occupational Therapy Association's Representative Assembly (RA) is responsible for the development and approval of Professional Standards and Policies that guide our profession. This is where the important decisions that shape occupational therapy practice, education, and advocacy are made.

You Can Make a Difference!

Did you know that any AOTA member can submit a request for action to the Representative Assembly? Each state has one representative.  Join NOTA RA Representative, Dr. Susan S. Hermes, as she shares information about the process.

Whether you're a new practitioner with fresh perspectives or an experienced clinician who has identified gaps in our professional guidance, your voice matters.

By submitting a motion to the RA, you can:

  • Address professional topics or issues you're passionate about
  • Propose new standards or policies
  • Request updates to existing guidance
  • Influence the direction of our profession
