Occupational Therapy for a Happy, Healthier Nevada

Occupational Therapy Practitioners’ (OTPs) Role

Occupational therapists (OTs) and occupational therapy assistants (OTAs) collaborate to meet Nevadan’s health care needs across their lifespan. We support promoting health and well-being and optimize daily life routines to increase individuals’ quality of life, regardless of abilities, conditions, or disease.

1. AB 106: OT Compact Bill

AB106, establishes the Occupational Therapy Licensure Compact. The OT Compact is a state-driven solution that allows licensed OTPs to practice across state lines without the need for multiple licenses, while maintaining strong public safety protections and state oversight.

The Compact will improve access to occupational therapy services, reduce barriers to practice, and support workforce mobility for occupational therapy practitioners (OTPs). It reduces administrative burdens, lowers costs, and improves access to care, particularly in underserved and rural areas. By addressing workforce shortages and supporting economic growth, the Compact ensures patients receive consistent, high-quality care.

We ask you to support AB106 - the OT Compact Bill.

2. SB 113: Handicapped Placard Bill

SB 113 expands the ability of occupational therapy practitioners and physical therapists to certify individuals with disabilities for accessible parking permits. By including OTPs and PTs as certifying providers, SB113 will streamline the process for patients, reduce barriers to care, and ensure that those who truly need accessible parking can obtain it efficiently.

We ask you to support SB 113 - the Handicapped Placard bill.

3. SB78: Nevada Board of Healing and Rehabilitative Practice

SB78, proposes significant changes to the structure and oversight of professional and occupational licensing boards in Nevada, including the Board of Occupational Therapy. SB78 proposes consolidating multiple health-related boards, including the Board of Occupational Therapy, into larger entities like the Nevada Board of Healing and Rehabilitative Practice.

We are advocating for equitable representation of occupational therapy practitioners and occupational therapy assistants on the board.

4. SB366: Enhance Medicaid Reimbursement for Healthcare Providers

SB366, aims to enhance Medicaid reimbursement rates to improve healthcare provider participation and expand patient access to services. By increasing reimbursement rates, this bill encourages more providers to accept Medicaid patients, reducing provider shortages and improving care accessibility, especially in underserved areas.

We ask you to support SB 366 - which will enhance Medicaid reimbursement rates to improve healthcare provider participation and expand patient access to services.
