PIMA university Student Poster Presentations |
The practice area was selected as pediatric occupational therapy, with a focus on preparing children for school by developing fine and gross motor skills. This program offers nannies engaging, easy-to-implement strategies to support child development during play, daily routines, and everyday activities. This topic was chosen because nannies often spend more time with children than any other caregiver, yet may lack the specialized tools and support needed to foster growth in coordination, strength, and motor skills. By acknowledging the vital role nannies play in early childhood development, the program empowers them with both purpose and confidence. The accompanying toolkit explains the importance of each recommended activity. By: Isabela Romanelli |
Injury Prevention for Housekeeping Professionals |
This is a comprehensive OT initiative aimed at reducing injuries among Las Vegas hotel and casino housekeeping teams through a bilingual, union‑supported training program led by an OTA under OT supervision. The curriculum combines education on musculoskeletal injury risk factors and OSHA‑like ergonomics with hands‑on training and use of long-handled or adaptive tools, tailored to common housekeeping tasks such as bed‑making, vacuuming, and bathroom cleaning. Sessions are scheduled during slower shifts in hotel banquet rooms and coordinated with HR and the Culinary Union to minimize disruption. Its long-term impact includes fewer back, shoulder, and wrist injuries, reduced leave time, and improved job satisfaction and retention, while challenges like language barriers, scheduling logistics, and employer buy‑in are addressed via translated materials, schedule flexibility, and union engagement. This approach aligns with best practices in occupational therapy for workplace wellness and ergonomic interventions to prevent hotel housekeeping musculoskeletal injuries. By: Tammy Corral |

Volunteer Program to Support Mental Health in Hospitalized Patients |
This presentation focuses on the fact that mental health is often overlooked in hospital settings, where the primary focus is usually on physical recovery. However, many patients experience emotional challenges like depression, anxiety, or isolation during their stay, which can impact their overall well-being and even delay healing. I introduced a volunteer-based program aimed at filling this gap. This ties directly into the role of occupational therapy, which looks at the person as a whole. OT focuses on helping individuals engage in meaningful activities and maintain their routines, even in challenging environments like hospitals. This program reflects OT values by supporting mental health, promoting occupational engagement, and creating a more holistic approach to patient care. By: Divine Lyric Tiposo |
Gaming For Social Growth And Emotional Regulation |
This program utilizes popular cooperative and competitive video games, such as Minecraft, Overcooked, and Mario Kart, to help children and teens with ADHD or social skill challenges develop emotional regulation, communication, and teamwork skills in a fun and engaging environment. By playing together with structured goals and guided discussion, participants practice managing frustration, taking turns, resolving conflicts, and expressing themselves clearly. The program encourages positive peer interactions and self-awareness, helping them transfer these skills to real-world social situations while boosting confidence and motivation through games they already love.
