Designed for both beginners and those aiming to enhance their classroom implementation, this course explores the vital role of occupational therapy practitioners (OTPs) in supporting assistive technology (AT) use within school settings. The American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) identifies AT as an area for OTPs to evaluate, intervene, and treat. AT use has expanded, becoming a common tool for all students to access in the classroom. This course will examine research-informed training approaches for OTPs, highlighting effective strategies and tools to enhance their confidence and skills in using assistive technology in schools.

Speaker Bio: Zetryana Rivera, OTDS, OTR/L, is a school-based occupational therapist (OT) working with Charter Schools in Nevada. Zetryana will graduate from Shenandoah University with her post-professional doctoral degree in occupational therapy in summer 2025, and she graduated from Colorado State University with a Master of Science in Occupational Therapy. Zetryana has been practicing OT for 10 years and has 9 years of experience in the school setting. She has worked with students, teachers, and families to support students' acquisition of Individualized Education Plan (IEP) goals. Zetryana is an assistive technology specialist for her school system and has spearheaded the establishment of an assistive technology program. Zetryana is driven to offer meaningful support to students, their families, and school staff.
