ACLS: Review, Relevance and Application in NV OT Service
Let's Return to Our Roots with the Allen Cognitive Level Screen Tool.
The OT profession started in mental health; however, less than 2% of all OTs work primarily in psychosocial settings. This may be a consideration as to why some states do not consider OTs qualified Mental Health Professionals. By increasing our understanding and use of MH tools at our disposal and providing robust, evidence-based recommendations to this realm of OT service, we can strengthen our footing and reach across NV with adult populations in a meaningful way.

Presenter: Matt Olivier MS OTR/L
Matt joined the OT profession after receiving his undergrad and Masters at Western Michigan University - with 4/4 clinical experiences focused on psychosocial and cognitive disabilities and rehabilitation, in adult and pediatric settings. Matt was a traveling therapist out of school, and worked in 8 states, ultimately landing in Northern Nevada, falling in love with the Reno/Tahoe area. Since moving to NV, Matt has worked full time in a Reno-based, inpatient mental health hospital as well as with older adults in SNF and ALF/Memory Support residential settings, all the while leaning on the ACLS and the Cognitive-Disabilities Model and framework to guide caregiver recommendations and allow for holistic and 'head-to-toe' functional recommendations to meet the global needs of patients and residents.
