We are very excited to introduce our November speaker and CEU event with Ms. Beth Vineyard!
Originally from Michigan, Beth Vineyard attended Grand Valley State University where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in biology. Passionate about environmental education, she worked for eight years as a Program Director for a non-profit based in Fort Collins, CO. There, she led both teachers and students on more than 50 international expeditions to inspire curious, brave, and proactive global citizens. In 2007, she transitioned into the classroom after earning her Master of Arts in education and elementary teaching license from the University of Phoenix. In 2012, she moved to Seattle to work as a first-grade teacher at an independent school. In 2016, she moved with her wife to Las Vegas to enjoy blue skies, a warmer climate, and opportunities to be closer to friends. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, camping, swimming, antique shopping and traveling.
Beth was first introduced to Social Thinking by Michelle Garcia Winner in 2012 as a first-grade teacher at a Seattle independent school. She currently works in conjunction with occupational therapists, speech pathologists, and interventionists in support of her students diagnosed with autism and other various learning differences, such as ADHD and Oppositional Defiant Disorder, as well as students who have yet to be diagnosed or struggle with self-regulation, executive functioning, and social competencies. She has attended two, three-day Social Thinking sessions and has completed more than 200 hours of online professional development training. Beth has also attended the Learning and the Brain conference, where she was inspired to teach from brain research in response to students with ADD/ADHD and sensory processing disorders, and further learned creative ways to inspire divergent thinking in her classroom.
Since arriving at The Alexander Dawson School, she has led 14 seven-week, small-group sessions serving approximately 40 students between the ages of five and 10 years old. She’s led professional development workshops with staff and works collaboratively with her fellow kindergarten, first, and second-grade teachers to support students with social communication learning challenges using the Social Thinking methodology. The motto in her classroom, which remains her driving force as a teacher is, "No brain is the same, no brain is the best, no brain is better than all the rest!”
