Speaker(s) Biography:

Stephanie Anderson was born and raised in Las Vegas, with very strong family roots tied to the city. She became an OTA in 2006 (graduating from Community College of Southern Nevada), and an OTR in 2010 (graduating from Touro University, Nevada). Currently, she is employed at Care Meridian 4 Kids (since 2012) and is Director of Rehabilitation, specializing in pediatric therapy services with medically fragile children.

When not working with children with highly specialized needs, she spends time with her husband, David, and five-year-old son, Drake. They are involved with the NASCAR Whelen Racing Series out of Las Vegas Motor Speedway, where David and his father race in the Super Late Model series. She also enjoys running in half-marathons and competing in Spartan races.

Stephanie is very active with occupational therapy students and is certified as an AOTA Fieldwork Educator. She integrates hands-on learning with didactic classwork knowledge with Level I and Level II students not only from local schools, but partners with other Occupational Therapy schools in other states.

Session Abstract:

Children with Special Health Care Needs (CSHCN) have increased in number due to increased survival rates of infants born prematurely, born with various congenital abnormalities, chronic conditions, and improved treatments for acute illnesses (Cohen, 2011). It was been found that children with congenital disabilities experience less diversity of activities and less social engagements, spending time in isolated activities (Keiko, 2008). CareMeridian 4Kids is the only free-standing, 100% pediatric Skilled Nursing Facility in Nevada. Our therapy team found the need for more community experiences for the medically complex population, and created the Community Reintegration Program to fill the void.
