NOTA Members!
The Legislative Team is excited to announce that NOTA will be offering a limited, 'Summer Series' on the Founding Documents of the United States..Podcast style. Think of this experience as a modern-day book club. :)
As OTPs, and an organization, we often reflect back on 'our roots' - coming from mental health institutions, emerging from former medical models of practice, etc.. The NOTA Legislative Team feels it is just as important that as citizens, and advocates, Nevada OTPs to feel just as grounded in 'the roots' of this nation, that allow us to advocate, speak with elected representatives, and have our voices heard on behalf of our patients, our communities and our communOT! From these, lessons emerge on where we've been, and where we can go, as we continue our advocacy efforts, together.
Each month, we will dig deep into a founding document, or two, and discuss it's relevance at the time, it's relevance -or not(?)- today, and how the these founding documents still can have modern-day applications in the ever-changing world we are all navigating together.
Plan to grab a cup of coffee, and join us once a month, 10am, for a casual, yet thoughtful discussion with OTPs and OTSs across the state. We will be using the Podcast
Civics 101
as our guiding resource (the 'book' of our book club). Plan to listen to the document episodes beforehand, and come ready to discuss.
Schedule
:
June 24th, 10am:
"The Declaration of Independence" & "The Articles of Confederation"
July 22nd, 10am:
"The Constitution"
August 26th, 10am:
"The Federalist Papers" & "The Bill of Rights"
**We are skipping "Magna Carta", but give it a listen anyway; its foundational information of yore. It's a fun one, too. Just a little out of the scope of our intended mission**

Happy listening, and looking forward to a great Summer Series with everyone! :)
Also
- We hope everyone had a GREAT OT Month! The Legislative Team asked members to share how -they- advocate, one NOTA member, Christina, had this to say:
"To advocate for the profession, I chose to share information about OT and OT Month with professors and students at UNLV, the UNLV Pre-Occupational Therapy Society (POTS) members, and my friends and family. I did this by creating an OT Month flyer and sharing the POTS organization flyer on my social media. I also had my friends and family share the flyers on their social media, sent them to my professors, and I shared them with the current members of POTS. In doing so, the flyers were shared with the entire Health Science Department at UNLV and the Pre-Occupational Therapy Society gained seven new members interested in learning more about the profession! My friends and family who shared the flyers on social media also received a positive response and told me that some of the people who saw the flyers had never even heard of OT before."!
Thanks, Christina, for sharing and your advocacy work on behalf of OT! Amazing!!
